Route description

English Version:

Start: Red Cross headquarter - End: Red Cross headquarter - Total length: 17 km round trip. - Time: 4 hrs. - Difficulty: Medium-dificult. Start beside the Red Cross headquarter in Algarinejo-Loja road ( A-4154); then, turn into the lane that you will come across on the right (just opposite some pine trees in the Casería Buena Vista area) and follow the path up to a fork; take the path to the left leading down to the river, passing OVER the bridge then crossing to the other side and continuing up to the road (at 4,250 m from the start) where a signpost points to El Castellar (CP 59). Follow this direction up to the lane leading off to the right at 6,300m from the starting point to begin a winding ascent where it is worth enjoying the excellent panoramic vistas now coming into view. Continue to climb to the San Miguel chapel itself, where you can make out the whole region in every direction. You are now at an altitude of 911 m and 7,950 m from the start. From the cross located in the enclave, the Tiñosa massif, Sierra Albayate and the town of Priego de Córdoba can be seen perfectly, as well as endless olive groves, El Castellar, La Concepción, etc. Begin the descent along the same path and at the CP-59 road, follow the same trail again down to the bridge over the Río Salado river, then continue to the right until 12,812 m. from the start, where the CP 27, the first sealed track you will have come across (asphalted for the first few metres), leaves to your left. Follow the path up around the Cortijo Díaz until you come to a fork; take the lane to the left and continue to the trail which leads back to the banks of the Río Salado, which you walk alongside until crossing over a bridge (at 17,350 m.) and coming into Priego through the steep area known as El Fontanal; some metres later is the Red Cross again and the petrol station.
