Route description

We discover one of the most iconic cycle routes in France, the Veloddysey, which travel the French coast. In this route, we will be able to cycle France while discovering incredible  landscapes like the Dune du Pyla, the biggest sand dune in Europe, or curious coast towns, like Arcachon and its lovely elevated cottages, or Bordeaux and its magic Mirror Fountain. All that while enjoying the refreshing breeze of the Atlantic Ocean

Practical Information

We start our trip in Hendaye, next to the frontier with Spain, from that point we can take the Velodyssey route (also called EV1), in which we can know the small Atlantic towns like Sant Jean de Lux Biarritz or Bidart, whose mains attractions are its rugged terrain which lead to incredible cliff with breathtaking views of the ocean and a curious placement of the houses, in order to embrace the forms of the mountains, the surf which attracts hundreds of surfers every year, and the street market that take place even three times a week during summer and where you can buy pretty much everything, from fresh fruit and vegetables to antique furniture.

As we go on through the EV1, we reach Bayonne, where we can visit its wonderful cathedral and its two main palaces: the Châteu Vieux and the Châteu Neuf.

We continue using the Velodyssey until reaching to Biscarose, a small shore town very focused on surf and summer tourism in general, but whose visit is worth it due to its wonderful walkway and it small stores, whose inspiration based on the beaches in Los Ángeles and Malibú makes us travel to the American West Coast, until we reach there we will know some other towns like Capbreton, Hossegor, Vieux Boucau, Léon or Mimizan.

On our way to Arcachon through the Velodyssey, we can detour to know the Dune du Pilat, the biggest dune in Europe and where its ascension (and its way downhill afterwads) and the views of the ocean, make it an attraction suitable for the whole family.

We go on North until reaching Arcachon, where we can eat their wonderful oysters and see their curious cabanne tchanquee or elevated cottages, just at the beach’s shore.

From Arcachon, we continue until Le Verdon sur Mer and from that point we take the route V80 to Bordeaux, our destination and capital city of Gironde, where we can fall in love on the Mirror’s fountain, just at the riverbed, which makes along the day different effects, from a crystal clear surface to see your reflection to a thin rain to refresh ourselves during the hot summer days.
