This cycle route forms a complete loop around the capital of the Grand Duchy, as Luxembourg is called, enabling cyclists to cross the dense forests that surround the main city of Luxembourg. Cycling Luxembourg will never be seen the same way after making this incredible route, which is easy and flexible for the whole family, so everyone can enjoy this small country.
Discover the Grand Duchy’s two tourist cities “par excellence”: the capital Luxembourg with its UNESCO World Heritage old town and the abbey city of Echternach of which the unique dancing procession is part of UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage. The first part of the tour easily follows a former railway track. You cycle around Luxembourg City on a shadowy path along the Alzette river, heading for the spa of Mondorf-les-Bains. The itinerary meanders through woods and vineyards to reach the wine town of Remich. Following the wide Moselle valley, you cycle downstream to the country’s lowest geographical point in Wasserbillig, after crossing the formerly fortified city of Grevenmacher. Through a splendid green landscape the route then follows the Sûre river from its mouth into the Moselle back to Echternach.
The path passes by the romantic Kockelscheuer site, with its ponds at the heart of a green setting, while its skating rink will delight ice sports enthusiasts. The highpoint of the circuit is, however, without a doubt the cycle ride through the narrow streets of the old city, listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. You will go alongside the cliffs of the upper part of the city, past the “Bock” rock with its unrestricted views of the Alzette valley, the fortifications and opposite, the modern Kirchberg district, dominated by the audacious façades of the Philharmonic Hall and the Grand-Duc Jean Museum of Modern Art.
